Oxfordshire’s innovation landscape – stock take 2022

Advanced Oxford is undertaking a project to map and examine Oxfordshire’s innovation economy.  The work will include creation of a dashboard of indicators that will allow us to assess changes across the region.

Advanced Oxford’s current research project will take stock of Oxfordshire’s innovation ecosystem, with the creation of a set of indicators and a dashboard to assess the growth and development of the region’s innovation activities – this will help us identify sectors or policy issues that need further support, will provide data to feed into the planning of the Oxford – Cambridge Arc and will demonstrate how Oxfordshire contributes to economic activity across the UK

It is some time since any assessment of Oxfordshire’s innovation landscape has taken place.  The Oxfordshire Innovation Engine reports were published in 2013 and 2016 respectively, while the Oxfordshire Science and Innovation Audit was published in 2017 (all reports available on the Latest Research section of this website).  There is a need to create an up to date picture of Oxfordshire’s knowledge economy to be used by individual companies, policy makers and to demonstrate how Oxfordshire contributes to the UK economy as a whole.

The research will facilitate and encourage innovation at the interfaces between sectors and companies by shedding light on collaboration activity and potential.

The intention is to identify a core set of indicators that can be monitored and updated on a regular basis, six-monthly or annually, as appropriate and meaningful.  Advanced Oxford intends to publish the first data from this study in autumn 2022.

In phase 2, the data set will facilitate potential ‘deep-dives’ into specific sectors of the knowledge economy.
