Tokamak Energy joins Advanced Oxford

Advanced Oxford is delighted to welcome Tokamak Energy as a new member of the science and technology focused business leadership organisation.

Based at Milton Park, Oxfordshire, Tokamak Energy was founded in 2009 as a spin-off from UK Atomic Energy Authority. They employ a growing team of over 260 people with experts from the UK and around the world. This combines world leading scientific, engineering, industrial and commercial capabilities. They have 77 families of patent applications and have raised $335 million, comprising $275m from private investors and $60m funded from the UK and U.S. governments.

“I am delighted Tokamak Energy is now part of Advanced Oxford. I am a great believer in clusters and networks as drivers of innovation and I welcome the role Advanced Oxford plays in championing the innovation ecosystem in our region. Tokamak Energy is building on two distinctive – and world-leading – clusters around Oxford in fusion energy and superconducting magnets. Both clusters can deliver substantial economic growth for the UK and develop the technologies necessary for the world to achieve net zero.” – David Kingham, Tokamak Energy Executive Vice Chairman and Co-Founder

“I am delighted to welcome Tokamak Energy into Advanced Oxford’s membership. The zero-carbon challenge is a global challenge and it will only be through innovation, like that being pioneered by Tokamak Energy, that we will be able to drive forward net zero at a global scale. Tokamak energy is an exemplar of Oxfordshire-based innovation, focused on solving real world and world-wide problems. It has been exciting to watch the company’s progress over the last few years and we are pleased to have them involved in our work as they move towards commercial fusion energy generation.” – Sarah Haywood, Advanced Oxford’s Managing Director

Tokamak Energy is a global commercial fusion energy company. They are a world leader in two transformative technologies: the compact spherical tokamak and High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets. One company, with licensable technology for commercialising clean, limitless and affordable fusion energy and enabling new levels of performance in HTS applications that change the world in which we live today.
