Advanced Oxford’s report, Gender-diversity, A catalyst for innovation, contains a set of recommendations for action.   This toolkit and guidance have been designed to help companies and individuals to respond to these recommendations.

This toolkit is suitable for companies at all stages of growth, operating within the knowledge economy, who are committed to establishing a gender-inclusive environment. The toolkit provides materials, links to resources and guidance to assist you to create, monitor and cultivate environments that genuinely support gender-inclusive innovation. Rather than duplicating existing resources, we have curated and signpost you to some fantastic resources already available, ensuring you have the best tools at your fingertips.  While this toolkit covers the key areas addressed within Advanced Oxford’s report, there is opportunity to develop and add to this material over time.  If you have suggestions for content, or issues that you would like to see addressed, please contact Advanced Oxford ([email protected]).

Content

This toolkit is built on insights drawn from a three-year PhD research project (to see more about the project, please use the link here) and is organised into three key themes that emerged from the data:

    • Designing, creating and implementing gender-inclusive culture
    • Measurement and assessment
    • Designing gender-inclusive structures, with a particular focus on recruitment and career structures

A dedicated set of guidance, tools, resources, and prompts to support reflection around these issues is provided.  Access each theme using the links below.

We hope this toolkit serves as a valuable resource as you work towards building a more inclusive and innovative environment.

Other resources and reading

There are many books, academic and non-academic articles, and materials developed by professional bodies that provide additional guidance and advice. The materials within this toolkit are not a comprehensive resource list, but we plan to keep updating the list frequently.

Each section (culture, measurement, recruitment and careers) contains signposting and links to useful external resources.  In addition, the organisations/publications set out below are useful sources of guidance and advice on all issues relating to people, organisations, human resources, and EDI issues.

    • Perez, C. C. (2019). Invisible women: Data bias in a world designed for men. Abrams
    • EDIS (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Science and Health) is a coalition of organisations working to improve equality, diversity and inclusion within the science and health research sector. Set up by The Francis Crick Institute, Wellcome Trust and supported by GSK, EDIS is hosted by Wellcome.  https://edisgroup.org/
