Oxford University Innovation (OUI) has published its Impact Report 2025, showcasing the scale and significance of innovation emerging from the University of Oxford and its growing community of spinout and start-up companies. The report highlights how research from Oxford is being translated into real-world change that benefits people, the economy and the planet.
OUI’s work sits at the heart of Oxfordshire’s innovation ecosystem. It provides the vital bridge between University of Oxford research and application, enabling academic excellence to move into consultancy, licensing and new company formation. This activity is central to the region’s reputation as a global centre for science and technology.
Innovation that delivers meaningful impact
The Impact Report shows how Oxford’s ideas reach far beyond the laboratory. Companies supported by OUI are developing tools that improve stroke recovery, creating new approaches to clean energy and designing products shaped by neuroinclusive thinking. These examples reflect the breadth of innovation taking place across the region.
During 2024 to 2025 the organisation supported 19 new companies, filed 93 new patents and executed 684 consultancy contracts. Financial returns to the University and its researchers reached £18.5 million. More than 1.9 billion users worldwide benefit from the products and services developed by Oxford companies.
A clear pathway from research to real-world outcomes
The report sets out OUI’s Theory of Change, showing how the organisation supports the journey from knowledge and research to long-term social, environmental and economic impact. This structured approach highlights the importance of strong inputs, effective activities and measurable outputs. It also provides a transparent way to evaluate how Oxford’s innovation ecosystem contributes to national and global priorities.
OUI’s portfolio companies continue to create jobs, attract investment and expand access to life-changing technologies. Their work aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with 91 percent of companies addressing global challenges such as health, climate resilience and inclusive growth.
Strengthening a world-class innovation ecosystem
Advanced Oxford welcomes OUI’s latest report. The findings demonstrate the strength of Oxfordshire’s innovation economy and underline the importance of sustained support for research translation.
