Bicester Motion has announced the practical completion of YASA’s new £26.8 million headquarters, delivered in partnership with Kier, marking the first phase of The Ranges development for innovative automotive and aviation companies.
YASA, a University of Oxford spin-out and wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes Benz, is the world’s leading developer of axial flux electric motor technology. The company employs more than 400 people across several Oxfordshire sites. Many of these teams, covering innovation, engineering, prototyping, operations, and business support functions, will relocate to the new Bicester site from summer 2026 once fit-out is complete.
The bespoke 90,000 sq ft building, funded by Cain International, offers uninterrupted views and direct access to the airfield, test track and surrounding green spaces. Social value was embedded from the start, with the project creating significant local impact:
-
More than 500 people worked on-site during construction
-
17 new jobs and six apprenticeships created, totalling 150 apprentice weeks
-
605 training hours and 379 educational hours delivered with local schools and colleges, including Glory Farm Primary School, The Cooper School and Whitelands Academy
-
Whitelands Academy pupils benefited from STEM workshops, work experience and professional insights
-
A two-day ‘Open Doors’ event hosted with Newbury College
-
18 tonnes of wood diverted from waste streams, reused or recycled through partnerships with Oxford Community Wood Recycling and other local organisations
Daniel Geoghegan, CEO of Bicester Motion, commented:
“Not only is it a stunning building and our first milestone in delivering new buildings to help shape the future of mobility, but it has been delivered on time and to an exceptionally high standard. To see the positive social impact that this construction project has had in terms of sustainable construction and outreach into the community is exactly what this investment is all about – making a positive difference and creating opportunities for inclusive growth.”
Phase 2 of The Ranges will deliver a further 124,000 sq ft of high-specification buildings for innovative brands, light manufacturing, research and development.
