Mishcon de Reya supports launch of Urban Biodiversity Standard at Davos

Mishcon de Reya supported the launch of the Urban Biodiversity Standard, by its client the Nature & People Foundation, at Davos last week.

The Urban Biodiversity Standard is an innovative science-based standard, which aims to catalyse investment in urban biodiversity to address growing challenges, such as the impacts of heat waves, air pollution, flooding, and drought.

Together with colleagues from Evertree, Greenville Partners and the University of Seville, Mishcon Purpose supported the conception and drafting of the standard.  Last year, the standard was piloted in two projects in Formentera and Rio de Janeiro.

Following the launch last week, a consultation on the Urban Biodiversity Standard and its application will be launched by the Nature & People Foundation in spring 2025.

“We are delighted to have supported the Urban Biodiversity Standard since its inception. Over half of the world’s population is urban today – a figure projected to rise to nearly 70% by 2050. Creating investment opportunities to build the resilience and health of our cities through nature is the kind of work our lawyers come to work to do.”  Partner and Head of Mishcon Purpose Alexander Rhodes

Further information and a press release from Nature & People is available to download on their website.
