Warneford Park – Update on proposals

Warneford Park is the focus of a new initiative by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Oxford, who have reached a significant milestone in their plans to create a world-leading mental health and medical research centre on the existing hospital site in Oxford.

The partners have now submitted a planning application to Oxford City Council for consideration. This follows extensive work to produce detailed plans that deliver on the programme’s vision, while being sensitive to the views of the local community, the heritage of the site, and its surrounding environment.

The new centre is set to offer vital benefits to patients, medical science, the NHS and the wider economy. The outcome of the planning application is expected in spring 2026.

In parallel, work is continuing to explore funding options, upon which the plans are contingent. An updated Strategic Outline Case has also been submitted to the NHS England and Department of Health and Social Care Joint Investment Committee for scrutiny over the summer.
