The Didcot Powerhouse Fund Announces 2024 Grant Recipients

The Didcot Powerhouse Fund has announced that they are making 21 grants, totalling £108,000, to local charities and community groups

This brings the total grant giving since Powerhouse launched, just over two years ago, to 56 grants totalling £283,000. For each grant at least 90% of beneficiaries are local, in the Powerhouse area – that is Didcot and surrounding villages, from Culham in the North to Blewbury in the South, and including the science campuses of Harwell, Culham and Milton Park. Donations come from local businesses and community fundraising.

A new Grant Recipient this year, is charity Bright Sparks Science CIC. The grant will provide 8 fully funded days of science workshops to 240 Year 6 pupils in primary schools within the Didcot Powerhouse area. The day would be split into themed sessions, focusing on a range of STEM careers from within the local community, highlighting local science at Harwell, Milton Park and Culham. Being fully funded means there is no cost to the school, and the workshops can be available to all pupils regardless of background.

“Once again, I am delighted to see that the Powerhouse grant funding will go where it can achieve maximum community impact. I would like to thank the Grants Panel for their hard work in evaluating all the applications this year and to say a huge thank you to all the donors and fundraisers who contributed towards the Fund.” – David Johnston, MP for Wantage and Didcot
