Powering up for the Green Recovery – launching 25th November 2020

Oxfordshire’s role in building a cleaner future

Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The UK has a great reputation for science and engineering research and finding ways to transform this into innovative technological solutions.  There are many examples of Oxfordshire based companies that are developing technology that will help us to transition to a low carbon, more sustainable economy.

Advanced Oxford’s next research report will look at how Oxfordshire’s science and technology businesses, campuses and academic infrastructure are contributing to this agenda.

The economic and political context

As the economy looks to move to a recovery phase, following the economic shock of Covid-19, there is an active debate about the need to embed environmental policies into the recovery plan, i.e. to drive a green economic recovery.

Our research will look at what needs to be done to support growth and will assess how these types of innovative companies can be at the heart of a post-Covid, green recovery.

What our research project will do:

Showcase the technology and capability within the region.  Using case studies we will look at the range of technologies and companies working across different sectors and characterise the growing cluster of Oxfordshire-based companies developing ground-breaking work to help solve a pressing global problem.

Advanced Oxford’s report will contribute to policy formation by providing insight, case studies and recommendations in support of growth.  We anticipate that the report will provide evidence that can be used to shape thinking around how Oxfordshire can engage inward investors and attract new industrial players and risk capital investment into the region.

We will build a Directory of Oxfordshire-based or located businesses that are innovating, developing or producing ideas, products, technology that will contribute to a low carbon/net zero/greener/sustainable economy.  The Directory will provide visibility to peers and to decision makers, characterising the richness of the ecosystem.  It will support companies to find potential collaboration partners and to build their network.
