Oxford University Development joins Advanced Oxford

Oxford University Development has joined Advanced Oxford, the business leadership group for companies and organisations committed to supporting the development of Oxfordshire’s innovation economy.

Oxford University Development (OUD) is a joint venture bringing together the land, vision and opportunities of Oxford University with the investment and development management skills of Legal & General Capital. OUD was formed in 2019 and is backed by around £4bn of investment capital. Delivery of commercial innovation space is one of OUD’s area of focus.

OUD is delivering exemplary, sustainable development for Oxford University to maintain and enhance its world class research and education and to support the wider Oxford economy and society. Three exciting projects are under construction including provision of much-needed homes for graduate students.

“OUD was established to deliver exemplary development for Oxford – both the university and wider community. We are achieving this through the curation of academic and commercial research space alongside integrated communities that will attract and retain the talent that keeps Oxford innovating. This includes the university’s world-leading research, as well as the many spin-out businesses offering employment across the city and region. We are pleased to be joining so many likeminded innovation businesses through Advanced Oxford.” – Anna Strongman, CEO of Oxford University Development

OUD is also delivering leading research facilities through the new Life and Mind Building on South Parks Road in central Oxford. The Life and Mind Building is the largest building project the University of Oxford has ever undertaken and will significantly improve the way psychological and biological science is undertaken in Oxford, helping scientists to solve some of our major global challenges. It will be home to the Department of Experimental Psychology and a new Department of Biology, combining the existing Departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology.

OUD is also constructing space for research and growing businesses through the first phase of development of Begbroke Science Park. OUD is also now consulting on a 170-hectare masterplan to create a new innovation district on the park’s site, the Begbroke Innovation District.

“We are delighted to welcome OUD into Advanced Oxford’s membership. OUD is playing such an important role in bringing forward the University of Oxford’s vision for science and innovation facilities, places and infrastructure. OUD is developing housing, research buildings, and with the master-planning work and investment plans for Begbroke Science Park, it will create a new science and innovation district for the region. Not only are they contributing to the construction of new buildings, but they also focus on so many of the issues that are at the heart of Advanced Oxford’s agenda – diversity, an inclusive economy, skills and talent – OUD’s mission aligns strongly with that of Advanced Oxford. We look forward to working together to grow Oxfordshire’s innovation economy.”- Sarah Haywood, Advanced Oxford’s Managing Director
